The electric vehicle (EV) industry is constantly evolving. Zest is keeping current and prospective EV drivers up to date with the major developments we believe will be shaping the industry going forward.

The Electric Car Grant

The UK government announced the new Electric Car Grant on 15July 2025, with £650m in funding to save buyers up to £3,750 when purchasing a new EV, making the switch to electric more affordable than ever.

The grant applies to new electric vehicles priced at £37,000 or less that meet strict sustainability standards. There are two levels of support: £3,750 for Level 1 and £1,500 for Level 2. Manufacturers apply for the grant, so buyers benefit from discounted prices directly at the dealership.

With over 20 models now approved and more to come, you can keep up to date with eligible models here. As the list of approved vehicles under the official scheme grows, many brands are introducing their own discounts and extra incentives, making now a great time to find compelling offers.

EV Charging Infrastructure Growth

According to Zapmap, as of the end of July 2025, there are now 84,218 electric vehicle charging points across the UK. That’s a 26% increase in public chargers compared to the same time last year.

Among the networks contributing to this surge, Zest is helping drive the UK’s EV infrastructure forward, now ranked within the top 14 public charging networks in the UK, based on number of charge points.

For EV drivers, this means less worry, more convenience, and the freedom to travel further with confidence.

Surging Used BEV market.

Used BEV sales have shown growth in the last quarter up to 40%, according to the latest data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). This reflects growing adoption of EVs, as more drivers turn to the used BEV market as an accessible entry point into electric mobility.

The 10 Fastest Charging EVs

The Independent has announced their top 10 fastest-charging EVs. The article highlights the fastest-charging electric cars available in the UK, with standout models such as the Lotus Eletre, Porsche Taycan, and Audi e-tron GT charging from 10% to 80% in as little as 14 -18 minutes. As charging speeds become faster, EVs are becoming more convenient and closing the gap with traditional petrol cars in terms of ease and efficiency.
