Zest's urban charging hub on Uppingham Road, Leicester.
Zest, one of the UK’s fastest-growing investor-operators of public access EV charging infrastructure, has opened a new urban charging hub on Uppingham Road, expanding access to ultra-rapid charging in Leicester.
Built on the site of a disused car wash, this new hub is a strong example of how investment in EV infrastructure can help regenerate neglected spaces while providing a vital local amenity.
The hub offers 10 charging bays, capable of speeds up to 300kW. Users can pay via the Zest app, contactless, or through Octopus Electroverse and Plugsurfing apps. Commercial drivers can also charge using the Allstar app.
With pricing set at 65p per kWh, this is one of the most cost-effective ultra-rapid charging options in the Leicester area. The initiative has been warmly welcomed by residents, businesses, and community leaders.
This launch follows similar urban charging hubs recently opened by Zest in London, Birmingham, and Bolton, as part of the company’s mission to expand EV infrastructure in underserved areas across the UK.
Councillor Sanjay Modhwadia, Leicester City Council, said:
“The introduction of new EV chargers on Uppingham Road is a welcome and timely development for our community. By making it easier for people to choose electric vehicles, we’re taking meaningful steps toward a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future. I’m proud to support this initiative and look forward to seeing its positive impact on residents and local businesses.”
Robin Heap, CEO at Zest, said:
“To meet the growing demand for electric vehicles, we need to build abundant infrastructure where people actually need it, close to where they live and work. This new urban hub in Leicester is a long-term solution, making charging more accessible today and future-proofing the city for years to come. Supporting the shift to electric vehicles is essential to improving urban air quality and addressing the climate change. Infrastructure like this helps make that shift more practical, for more people, more quickly.”
